It’s just so satisfying to me to read a summery book in the summertime or to cozy up by the fire (or the radiator, in my case) in the winter while reading about blustery winds and snow storms and so I thought I’d make little lists recommending books that remind me of particular times of the year.
So June in the U.K isn’t typically summery by the usual standards of the season, but these books are perfect for days spent at the seaside, or just dreaming of the sun while you stare out of the window at the stupid, stupid rain and hail.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Sun, sea, sand, shipwrecks, desert islands, philosophizing, Bengal tigers.
Sun, sand, plane crashes, gangs of angry boy scouts, conchs and a harrowing murder. Basically if as a child you ever wondered what it would be like to live on an island without grownups around making up rules and ruining your fun, this book is the answer.
Sun, sand, beach houses, a particularly casual murder and a lesson in why it’s important to feel your feelings when you feel them.
